It is nominally sized for 2-inch pipes, using a socket (slip) connection on one end and a female pipe thread (FPT) on the other. This dual-ended design allows for a flexible, hybrid piping system — one that can combine the permanence and leak-resistance of a glued PVC pipe with the convenience and accessibility of a threaded fitting.

Constructed from Schedule 80 PVC (a heavier-duty PVC variant), the 835-020 adapter offers superior strength and pressure-handling capability compared to lighter Schedule 40 fittings. The use of Schedule 80 PVC ensures that the adapter’s wall thickness and structural integrity are robust enough to handle demanding conditions — particularly useful in commercial, industrial, or high-stress plumbing applications.
