While in one place the manufacturer claims it does not have to be attached to the spa wall if using the base plate that slides underneath the spa, the assembly instructions indicate that it should be lagged into the spa sidewall with the provided lag screws. Indeed, when I tested it with my old waterlogged cover, it wobbles uncomfortably under its weight, but is much steadier after lagging it into the sidewall of the spa. The quality is average, but the price is right. If this is the premium model, I’d hate to see the standard model.
